About

Community Pride is a program designed to create an awareness of the needs and concerns of our environment in every citizen, organization, business, and government agency. Clean communities are safe, good for tourism and economic development, and are a source of Pride for all that call Charleston County home.

Community Pride (CP) is staffed by one part-time Program Coordinator, and is supported and guided by a Board of Directors. The CP Board is made up of a committed group of community members. Community Pride’s work extends to all of Charleston County. Clemson University Extension Service provides office space and limited secretarial staff.

History: Charleston South Carolina is world renowned for its history, natural beauty, and Lowcountry charm. In 1966 the Charleston County Community Improvement and Beautification Committee was organized by Clemson University Extension Service, at the request of the Governor’s Beautification and Community Improvement Board as part of a statewide program.  In 1971, the name was shortened to Charleston Pride, Inc., and was incorporated as a charitable organization.  The name was changed again in 1986 to Community Pride of Charleston County, Inc. to more adequately reflect the organization’s activities and focus.

Our projects are funded through community donations.
